Hanny Smedes Verburg

Hanny Smedes Verburg, née Harmke Smedes, quietly passed away into eternity in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 13, 2019. She was born on February 9, 1931, the second youngest of eight siblings, to Sjabbo and Anje (Smit) Smedes in Termunten, Gr, The Netherlands. After a full life, including  nine final, difficult years of progressive memory and communication loss, she is now away from the body and at home with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8) and awaiting a new body sown in weakness and raised in power (1 Cor. 15:43). The family she helped raise is her legacy. She will be remembered in love by her devoted husband of 62 years, Jacob Verburg, and by her children, Adriaan and Shari (Josh&Joni, Adri, Kara, Kylie; Luke&Kristen, Michael; Laura&Kevin; Tessa&Tell; Heather; and Jake), Sjabbo and Joann (James&Katie; Maria&Ben, Gerrit, Joanna; Ethan&Barb, Evelyn, Oscar; David&Sarah, Henry; Victoria; Troy; Robert; and Geneva), Wynie and Lou Vorsteveld (Anton&Cassie, Lucy, Johannah, Maxwell; Jacklyn&David, Matthias, Willem; Hans&Alex; Jessica&Jamie, Aries), Anje and Harold DeGraaf (Nicholas; Michael; Tristan; and Renae), Elisabeth and Mark Angier (Derrick&Sarah; Hillary; Theresa; and Jeanine), Case and Betty (Hannah&Alex; Reuben; Avery; Seth; and Lynnea). She was predeceased by a beloved son, Sander. She is survived by a sister, Bep Dijk, and 3 sisters-in-law, Gerrie Smedes, Ellie Smedes (all of The Netherlands), and Trijnie Pratt-Verburg (England), as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service of Thanksgiving in her memory will be held Monday, April 29, 2019, D.V., at 11 a.m. at the Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church in Vergennes. Visiting hours will also be at the CVCRC, Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m.
