Michael Eugene Huestis, 80, took his last breath surrounded by loved ones on July 18, 2023.

Mike was born February 19, 1943 to Alma and Merton Huestis. He grew up in Bridport, VT the oldest of 15 children. He lived in Ferrisburgh where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and going on drives to ‘look for deer’. He loved his wife of 55 years, Helen Danyow Huestis, beyond measure. Together they enjoyed country music, the fiddlers, and dancing.

He served his country in the Army, and then the National Guard for 20 years. He was stationed in Germany and South Korea at different times. He was proud to be a retired military sergeant. 

He will be remembered for his sense of humor (right up until the end!) and his love of family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly, he would light up around them. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen, his children, Melanie (Jim Sestokas), Todd (Jessie Huestis), Chris (Heidi Huestis), and Eric (Michelle Livingstone), grandchildren Brittany, Brendon, Kay, Natalie (Kenny Bell), Emma, Oscar, Jacob, and Olivia; great grandchildren Traesen, Maple, Coen, Danyll, and Beau; his siblings Patricia Cawthra, Dennis Huestis (Celine), Sandra Rule, Louise Smith (Charlie Holbrook), Colleen Huestis, Sheila Huestis, Mary Dragon (Randy), and Gerald Huestis.

He is predeceased by his parents Alma & Merton Huestis, and 6 siblings:  Merton James Huestis, Virginia Nedwick, Ervin Huestis, June Ash, John Huestis, and Carol Huestis.

Calling hours will be held at the Brown McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Sunday July 23rd at 1 to 3pm. with military honors at 2 p.m. A celebration of life will be held immediately after at the Vergennes American Legion.
