Patricia Ruth (Mohan) Brown

Patricia Ruth (Mohan) Brown

Patricia Ruth (Mohan) Brown, 90, of Ferrisburgh, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

She was born on February 22, 1930 in Brandon to Hazel (Shedd) and William B. Mohan.

Pat grew up on the family farm in Brandon with her sister and five brothers before graduating from Brandon High School in 1948. She then traveled throughout New England, working in a pen factory in Bridgeport, Conn. and living with family in Salem, N.Y. before returning to Brandon where she worked as a saleswoman for Singer Sewing Machine in Rutland.

Pat met her husband on a blind date and only agreed to a second date because of his car. Pat and John R. “Jack” Brown were married on June 28, 1952. They moved to Proctor and raised five children. Pat sewed pajamas at a factory in Rutland before becoming an expert on all things marble and granite while working as a saleswoman for Vermont Marble in Proctor.

In 1966 the family moved to Ferrisburgh where they added one more surprise baby. Pat worked for many years in the A&P Store and BF Goodrich in Vergennes.

Pat volunteered many hours to the Vergennes Fire Department making spaghetti sauce, goulash, and baked goods for their dinners and refreshments after long fire calls. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making clothes for herself and her daughters, and quilting for family and raffles. She enjoyed hunting with her brothers, was an enthusiastic bowler in her younger years, and enjoyed a good square dance or polka. She loved working in her gardens with her fresh vegetables and flowers and watching all the birds at her feeders. She was an avid reader and could give you book reports on novels and mysteries from Bixby Library. But mostly, Pat enjoyed her family and close friends. She was always happy with a baby in her arms or toddlers at her feet.

Pat is survived by her six children: Mary Rheaume Johnson (Buddy) of Warner Robins, Ga., Kathleen Rose (Bryan) of Essex Junction, Deborah Lavalette (Michael) of Hinesburg, Robert (Nobuko) of West Point, Ut., William (Sharon) of Vergennes, and Brian (Cheryl) of Norwalk, Conn., sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers:

Bernard “Mick” Mohan of Tenn., Ken Mohan (Verna) of Brandon, and Tom Mohan of Brandon, as well as sisters-in-law Elsie Mohan of Brandon and Jane Brown of Rutland, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was preceded in death by her brothers Norman “Jim” and Richard Mohan and her sister Jane Robidoux, several sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, and recently by her grandson’s wife Christina.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christina’s Courage, c/o First Mid Bank & Trust, 1301 Broadway, Highland IL 62249 or to the Vergennes Fire Department c/o Steven’s Hose Company, 120 Main Street, Vergennes VT 05491.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life is being planned for this summer. Arrangements are with Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes.
