            Charles Alfred Bemis Sr. 82, passed away peacefully with family by his side Friday, December 8, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

            Charles was born October 31, 1935 in Crown Point, NY, the son of Alfred and Geneva (Clark) Bemis Sr.

            Charles grew up and attended school in Crown Point where he had graduated. When he was not in school, he worked with his father and family at their home milking and feeding cows, working in the woodlot and other odd chores.

            In 1955 while attending a dance, he met Lorraine Andrews. They married in 1957 and had in June of 2017 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

            Through his life, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, spending time with family and making runs to the Addison General Store for coffee and conversation with friends.

            He had a strong work ethic. He worked the family wood lot to earn money for his first car. He entered the workforce working for Western Electric and then to Simmonds Precision and his last job as Road Commissioner for the town of Addison.

He was a member of the Tri-Town Water Commission where he had served a number of years as a member and Chair. He was also active with the Grandview Cemetery Association in Addison.

Charles was predeceased by his sister Francis (Bemis) Furman, brother George Bemis, brother Alfred (Sam) Bemis Jr. and grand-daughter Sara Maxfield.  He is survived by his wife Lorraine, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Janice (Parker) Bemis Jr., daughter Lisa Maxfield  and her partner Scott Spence , daughter and son-in-law Corinne and Craig Isvak and son and daughter-in–law Craig and Beth (Burnham) Bemis. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Kate (Maxfield) Tuure and her husband Nate, Dana Maxfield and his wife Amy, Renate Isvak, Charles (Ethan) Isvak, Thomas Bemis and Matthew Bemis. His former grand-daughter-in-law Sabrina Maxfield and his great-grandchildren Kaia Tuure, Alina Tuure , Cole Lee Tuure and Mason Maxfield were special to Charles. He also leaves behind his sister Carolyn Bemis, sister Vivian Varmette and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

            Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 15th at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral following at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Addison after the service.
