Mary E. (Fisher) Sleeper

Mary E. (Fisher) Sleeper, 77, of West Addison passed away peacefully on June 23, 2017, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with Dementia at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on September 28, 1939, in West Addison, the daughter of Harold and Gertrude (Wiley) Fisher.

Mary grew up in West Addison and graduated from Vergennes High School. She attended Champlain College where she received a Certificate in Junior Accountancy with Dean’s List honors. It was there that she met her soul-mate, Roger Sleeper. They were married in the West Addison United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Roger and Mary lived in Burlington, Winooski, and South Burlington before residing in West Addison to raise their children. Mary was a devoted lifetime member of the church where she served as Secretary of the church Administrative Council, church Treasurer, and Secretary of the United Methodist Women for several years. She also was Treasurer and Secretary of the Addison PTO, and held the offices of President and Treasurer of the Champlain Homemakers for a number of years.

Mary was most happy being with her family, especially at the holidays when she enjoyed being home. She was a very family-oriented person. She also loved to cook big meals for the family and was an amazing cook. She enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder, always hoping to see cardinals, as they were her favorite bird. Mary was very much loved by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her husband Roger Sleeper, their children, Mark and his wife Mary Melanie of Ferrisburgh, Greg and his wife Julie of Colchester, Jeff and his wife Jeannette of Vergennes, and Janet and her husband Reg of New Haven. Mary is also survived by her brother John Fisher of Anaheim, CA, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Mike, Dan, Bradley, Emily, Allison, Amy, Jenna, Andrew, four step grandchildren, Corey, Nikole, Theresa and Reagan, and six step great grandchildren, Cidney, Mason, Noah, Melanie, Joseph and Gabe. She was predeceased by grand daughter Sarah Ann Sleeper, sisters-in-law, Linda (Landon) Fisher, Ing Mei (Westervelt) Fisher, and Marilyn (Sleeper) Reed and brother-in-law Frank.
