Shirley May Curtis LaBerge, 90, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at her home in Vergennes. She was born December 28, 1927 in Charlotte VT, one of 11 children born to Ezra and Rose (Lavalette) Curtis. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Robert (Bob) LaBerge of Charlotte, Vermont. Shirley worked as a telephone operator, a farmer, and retired as a Laboratory Technician at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center. As the wife of a farmer she managed the books, cooked for the family and the hired hands, cared for the family’s sick and injured and was a loving mother to her seven children. Shirley enjoyed visiting with and hearing about her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She also enjoyed the company of her many friends, playing cards and yahtzee, the casino, going to the senior center and her church.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Louis Curtis and by her children Bernadette Rose, Michael LaBerge and wife Mary Ellen, Judy New, James LaBerge and wife Dianne, Lisa LaBerge and fiance Mark Roberts, Lonnie Graham and husband David, Victor LaBerge and wife Lauren, and grandchildren Hannah Towne, Zebulon Towne and wife Nina, Elizabeth and Emily LaBerge, Kristopher Harms and wife Martina, Robert New, Alex and finance Kaylyn Grenies and Dianne LaBerge, Lauren Wilkinson and husband Craig, Renee Morley and fiance Stephen Hodgdon, Great grandchildren, Shirley and Valentina Harms, Wyatt Wilkinson and by her numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 18th at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19th at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes. A private family interment will be held at a later date..
