William Glenn Oosterman

North Ferrisburgh

William Glenn Oosterman, 62, of North Ferrisburgh was called up yonder on March 9, 2016. For a man of many afflictions, he will be remembered for his broad, gap-toothed smile, and his altruistic drive to do what he could with what he was given. Whether it be a baked dessert to brighten a neighbors day, a chocolate bar for a friend who nearly fell from her roof (who was having a really bad day), roadside rescue for a sister-in-law driving a lemon, or even sharing his home with a young mom and baby that needed a place to stay, helping people made him happy. Bill was a jack of many trades, welding, hoof-trimming, and jerry-rigging were some of his specialties. Bill became an avid gun enthusiast at a very young age and had enjoyed building a diverse gun collection. His favorite rifle was a .30-30. Although he held a CDL his favorite mode of transportation was horse and wagon. On his better days you’d find him dawning a full white beard in a hand-made santa suit driving a team of fuzzy, jingle bell adorned belgians across the fields of Shelburne Farms with a sleigh full of happy children. In his latter days he enjoyed staying connected with friends and family through daily chats on the phone or drop in visits which brightened his day. Bill was a man who loved his family. A piece of his heart remains here with his wife of 35 years, Penny(62) his daughter Ashley(31), his son John(28), his beloved grandbabies Levi(4) and Liam(16 mo), his four brothers Terry Oosterman, Howard Oosterman, Douglas Oosterman, and Wes Oosterman his sister-in-laws, his many nieces and nephews, his step-mother Margery Oosterman, four step-sisters and his very best friend Norman Lavalette. The rest of his heart is in heaven where his body is whole and without sickness and today he sits in the company of his father William Oosterman, mother Gladys Oosterman and daughter Heather Oosterman in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Services will be held on March 26th at Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church in Vergennes with family greeting at 10:30 and memorial at 11:00 with light luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Champlain Valley Christian School in Vergennes.
